    The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Brad Bertelli, a Florida Keys historian, author, speaker, and Honorary Conch, as our May luncheon guest speaker.

    A native of Southern California, Brad moved to Florida in 1989 and earned his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Miami. He has lived on Plantation Key since 2001 and spent eight years curating Islamorada’s Keys History & Discovery Center. Today, Brad shares his passion for the island chain through his books, columns in The Keys Weekly, the popular Facebook group Florida Keys History with Brad Bertelli, speaking engagements, and his Tasting Florida Keys History program at Robbie’s Marina.

    Florida Keys Firsts: Bonefish, Key Lime Pie, and the Conch Republic

    It’s nearly impossible to tell a story about Key Largo, Islamorada, or Key West without telling a larger Florida Keys story. In this engaging presentation, Brad will share fascinating stories about:

    • The first bonefish caught on a fly

    • The origins of Key lime pie

    • The birth of the Conch Republic

    While some of these “firsts” didn’t happen on Key Largo, each has meaningful ties to Ocean Reef, and Key Largo itself played a significant role in the founding of the Conch Republic. Brad will explore these connections and the events that led to one of the Keys’ most iconic moments in history.

    This promises to be an informative, entertaining, and distinctly “Keys” luncheon you won’t want to miss.

    The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Michelle Lincoln as our June Luncheon guest speaker.

    Presentation: State of the County

    Mayor Lincoln will present the “State of the County,” offering an informative overview of the health of Monroe County’s economy, environment, and the overall wellbeing of our residents and visitors. This presentation will provide valuable insight into the issues, opportunities, and priorities shaping our community.

    About Mayor Michelle Lincoln

    Elected to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners (District 2) in 2018, Mayor Lincoln currently serves as President of the Florida Association of Counties and chairs the South Florida Regional Council. She is active at the state and national levels, including service on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee, and is a Certified, Advanced, and Advanced II County Commissioner graduate.

    Previously, Mayor Lincoln served three years on the Marathon City Council, including one year as Mayor. A Monroe County resident since 1999, she has a long-standing commitment to community service, having worked as a Child Advocate Coordinator for the Guardian ad Litem Program and continuing to volunteer today. She is the recipient of the 2018 Kay Gradick Woman of the Year Award and mentors with Take Stock in Children.

    Mayor Lincoln is a member of Rotary and several Chambers of Commerce and is an alumna of Leadership Monroe County. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Northern Kentucky University and is the proud mother of two daughters and a son-in-law.
