ORCC Meet the Candidates: Political Panel
The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce their upcoming Meet the Candidates: Political Panel on Wednesday, October 7.
The complimentary meeting is open to all Ocean Reef Members via Zoom and will provide an opportunity to hear directly from nine local candidates from the US State Representative seat to the Board of Monroe County Commissioners race. The candidates will speak about their stance on political topics, what they feel equips them to serve as your representative, and what direction they hope to take on public policy and the myriad of programs that are part of what makes the Club’s unique way of life possible.
After a brief installation of our 2020-2021 Chamber Board of Directors, the participating candidates will be introduced. You’ll hear a question and closing statement from each, aimed at outlining their beliefs and qualifications and providing Members with important information for Election Day.
The following decisions, among many others, are to be made by our local representatives:
· Addition of a toll at the entrance to the Keys to fund infrastructure and sea level rise mitigation
· Investment in coral reef restoration research and/or Everglades restoration
· The future of parks, beaches and open spaces in the Keys as we move to having a Monroe County Parks and Recreation Director for the first time
· Moving forward with projects after laying off 40 government employees due to the pandemic
· Measures being taken to address the flooding in Key Largo
· Enforcement of the 2023 cap on development in Monroe County per growth management restrictions
